Can you be - TWICE THE DOCTOR?

Twice the Doctor believe that the vast majority of doctors have a fundamental drive to help those patients that are most in need. A logical extension of this drive is to provide medical services to the Third World.

Most doctors have virtually considered or even romanticized about volunteering in Africa or in a similar developing world situation. However, the realities of a busy practice and family life continually intervene so that only a very small minority of us ever actually make the journey.

The Twice the Doctor Foundation provides doctors with the vehicle to "virtually" make this important journey in an incredibly efficient and effective way. That's why their motto is "using your head and your heart to really make a difference".

In partnership with UNICEF and The Fred Hollows Foundation Twice the Doctor have devised a way for you to volunteer in your own rooms / work place for a day per year (or more if you wish), see your own patients, donate the income from that day (about 0.5% of your annual income) and they will use those funds to employ/empower doctors and primary healthcare workers in Africa.

Because of the enormous disparity in doctors wages between Australia and the Third World (a doctor in Africa gets about $12,000 pa and a nurse about $2,000 pa), your day of volunteering translates to about one month of a doctor's services or six months of a nurse's services in Africa.

That's being effective and efficient. That is using both your head and your heart to really make a difference. So please grasp this opportunity to virtually volunteer and thereby fulfil a longheld ambition. You'll help hundreds of the most needful patients in the world, boost your self esteem and inspire others in the profession to follow your lead.

Your donation will be administered by UNICEF one of the best known and most trusted brands in the world.

Your donation is fully tax deductible and you will be issued with the appropriate receipt by email.

Are you a UK trained Physicians, Surgeons, Paediatrician, GP or Radiologists who needs to return to the UK for re-validation? If so, we have a client (really pretty location) who can assist with providing locum coverage and they can arrange the UK appraisal.

Surgeons and physicians get a flat £3600 per week paid by the health board.

The benefits –

1. You choose when you want to work. It is not a gamble waiting to see what locums are available when you are - minimum two (2) weeks.
2. You are given a concierge service from arriving in the UK. We arrange all your travel and get you to the placement and arrange to have a car waiting for you to use during your time there.  UK travel paid (will try for overseas portion).
3. You are given high quality family accommodation – usually a holiday home we rent.
4. You are welcomed in the hospital because you are not on locum terms and they appreciate the enormous benefits that has deliver the health board!
5. You are offered an appraisal.
6. Several doctors have signed up as they can then manage their working time to ensure they have enough clinical work for revalidation and they don’t find themselves having to accept locums all over the UK just to get the hours they need.

So, for your next trip home - include the revlaidation and enjoy time with the family as well.

New Zealand is a great place to visit and work. Salaries in NZ are attractive with low taxation (the tax rate is currently capped at 33%) and no National Insurance contribution allowing for an excellent quality of life. Doctors generally report that working conditions are also very favourable in comparison, with more study and annual leave and fewer working hours, allowing for a better work/life balance.
